Redesign of Athens Onassis Group Office – inspired by the seabed

Onassis group is located in Athens, Greece. The office space of the group was redesigned by tenon architecture in 2022.

The project requires the renovation of office space at the headquarters of Onassis group in Athens. The guiding principle is to creatively put wood in organic form and clean lines indoors.

The two main elements of the sculpture are the pre-existing plywood structure and the ceiling. In sharp contrast, the design of customized furniture adopts solid geometry to meet the functional requirements of key work areas and collaborative meeting areas.

The different methods, materials and construction technologies used by the two parallel systems constituting the scheme also highlight the duality of the interior. The preliminary study on the structural form of fluid plywood needs clay test and abstract 3d modeling, taking into account its relationship with the existing structure and the functional area after decoration. The final shape is analyzed into layers and modules by the algorithm, which are made of birch plywood, and then cut into a total of 751 pieces by NC machine tool. In contrast, furniture is treated as a simpler system, firmly based on function, and made of solid maple and traditional woodworking.

From concept to manufacture, these two systems are deliberately regarded as opposing elements, and the resulting space is a harmonious interior, which obtains warmth and clarity from subtle contrast.
